Who's behind this.
Counter Intelligence Labs is founded and currently led by Mariah Kamei. As CIL grows, contributors and advisors will be named here. We don't publish anonymously.
How we're funded.
CIL is currently self-sustained, with no plans to take on large donations. If that changes, every funding source over five thousand dollars in a calendar year will be disclosed on this page. We will not accept funding from AI companies, lobbying organizations, or political campaigns.
How we take positions.
We hold a stated position: AI systems that influence consequential decisions about people should be accountable for what they do. Within that frame, we follow evidence. We have criticized advocacy framing we believe is overheated. We have criticized industry framing we believe is self-serving. If a piece of analysis would embarrass a potential funder, we publish it anyway.
Conflicts of interest.
Mariah Kamei has spent her career in marketing and communications leadership at private companies. None of her current or former employers have any influence over CIL content. Any consulting or speaking engagement that could create the appearance of a conflict will be disclosed at the top of the relevant piece.
Corrections.
When we get something wrong, we fix it at the top of the piece, not quietly in the text. The original version remains accessible. We'd rather be corrected than be right by accident.
